Yes and I'd recommand it. Seating is limited and the place is popular.
They are proper portions. You'll feel full but not overstuffed.
It is not
You don't. You need to call for a reservation.
No you'll make everyone's night worse
Knowing them they will do their best.
Don't let the rustic look of this place fool you. The food, ambiance and staff are absolutely amazing. We went last night after a recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint. I had the buffalo mozzarella and bison; my husband the sweat breads and lamb. Amazing. The wine was paired perfectly as well. If you are a visitor to Quebec and want to get out of the touristy Old Quebec, this is an excellent option. Don't hesitate ... just go.
Food is good, a bit pricey pricey, but worth it - we spent around CAN100 for a couple people, no wine. This is a quite hipster place, there is no menu to read (everything is explained by the server) and overall the place is comfortable and team is polite. The only reason for a 4 and not 5, is the unknown rule to seat guests. We were seated at the very first table and saw many people being said that there weren't seats for that day if they didn't have a reservation, but also saw the opposite for other people in the same situation. I think I did notice some standards on the clientele, but would avoid make a statement about it. I guess they want to be the cool place around.
OMG! We happened on this by accident. The outside appearance was that of a small neighborhood bar. And we were so lucky to be seated as it normally requires reservations. We were delighted with the 5 star meal that was created for us. And the process was quite reasonable. A definite MUST if you are in Montreal.
I have wanted to try this restaurant since I was last in Quebec five years ago and we were not disappointed! Awesome service and friendly staff. A casual atmosphere with amazing food, great wine list (if you can call it that - their wine list is a display cabinet but their staff are happy to make recommendations). I was thoroughly impressed and they were more than willing to offer us other restaurant suggestions for the rest of our stay. Five stars might not be enough.
Awesome restaurant. The food was amazing and the staff are very friendly. The whole ambience is really cool. The place is very small so reserve ahead.
If I could give 6 stars I would! Incredible experience and wonderful food at this spot. The front door is deceiving but once inside, you’ll be amazed with the incredible meal provided via awesome and helpful service. Reservations a helpful must. I just saw four people putting on this delightful dinner and while in this character filled spot I thought: for the delicacies I’m getting at this more-than-fair price, why ever try a hoity-toity spit such as the Chateau Frontenac? If you want a totally satisfying dinner with a delicious dessert, this is your place. Enjoy and dream of returning!
Love love love. Make sure to make your reservation at least one week ahead. Went on a Saturday night at 6pm seating, completely booked, the host had to turn away so many walk in customers. If you have no reservation though but still really wanna try, maybe can try your luck at 8:10 to see if anyone not showing up for the 8pm seating. Anyway, food is awesome. Menu changes. The hospitality is always superberb. Loved the sweetbreads we had, the duck gizzards(sold out after 1st seating), duck breast(MVP of the night!)!!As we told the host we were a bit cold, they kept the door closed the whole time. The hosts had to step out once a while to get fresh air. Sorry and thank you.
5 stars doesn't do this restaurant justice. Hospitality was amazing and the food was that much better! If I could give 10 stars i would this place really deserves it! And get there early if you don't have a reservation, it fills up fast!
Absolutely loved our experience at L'Affaire Est Ketchup. We booked in advance, and showed up right at 8:30pm as expected. The entire staff greeted us. You feel like you're eating in a restaurant that someone has started in their kitchen. Full disclosure, this place is not for the faint at heart. It can get hot, even when it's 4 degrees outside, and we left smelling like cooked meat. But in my opinion that's part of the charm. We had bison, lamb, tartar, spinach salad and an awesome dessert. We did shots with the cooks. It was awesome.
This place , the chefs and all the staff deserve it . An amazing restaurant with food made by chefs that are passionate about their cuisine . Love the wine "list " of the old hutch . Everything we ordered was innovative, and delicious! Best Magaret du Canard ive ever had and most unique smoked salmon plate .
Dipping this bread in the calmars sauce is a very smart choice. Surlonge de Bison - a rich, meaty flavor the juices oozed out of the meat which had a nice bark on it. Magret de Canard - the rice bed mixture was an interesting take on wild rice but much better with textures of bitty veggies. Delicious
Very good defiantly something you should experience if you wanna try very good tasting food.
Brilliant eating. It's very small restaurant that has 2 settings per night and holds max of 25 people. It's a very small kitchen and there was one chef on deck at our dinner. Veal sweet breads are amazing as is the duck breast, but go ahead and skip dessert. Best atompshere
